Chronicles of a sick old guy 9-25-12

Hooked up with new kicks from Evolv!

Well I went into the weekend with what I thought was allergies and rolled straight into a head cold. Nothing worse then laying around in bed on your time off. Of course stupid me I have to stay on my program, so I decide Monday while still feeling pretty low to go to SPI and grind through the day’s workout.

Here was the PIT program:

MONDAY 9-24-12
Round 1

*500m row
3 rds…
5 pullups
10 pushups
15 front squats

Round 2

*400m run
3 rds…
5 pullups
10 pushups
15 front squats

Round 3
*500m row
3 rds…
5 pullups
10 pushups
15 front squats
*400m run
So I come out of the gate well, but the heat and the illness got the best of me. I finished round two and go into the second row and then completely bonk, so bad that it took me several rest breaks just to finish the 500m. I almost fainted from the heat and the cold. For those that know me, you know 500 or even 5000m is really not an issue. That was how bad I felt. I tried to fake it and get through it, but it was too much too soon.
That was Monday and I live to train another day. Today I am still reeling a bit from the cold and Monday’s bonk, but I hate rest so I choose to push on. Today I decide to do my own workout. I think it was a good one. Try it out if you find it interesting.
Tuesday’s workout:
Five rounds
  • 100 touches jump rope
  • 10 inverted rows on the Smith machine I also mixed in pulling up and letting go of the bar each time, making me catch the bar on the decent. Almost like a reverse campus move on a roof. I did this with my feet elevated in order to maintain my body posture and engage my core.
  • One muscle up into five pull ups with out leaving the bar
  • Twenty sledge hammer swings (16lbs sledge) 10 each arm.

I followed this with Tabata can openers for my core.

Tomorrow I plan on climbing, but I need to make sure my boss at home gives me clearance.

I hope you are all getting out there in the rock or in the gym. See you all in Bishop this winter!
